A Small Vita of Jin-Li Hu — a BLUE-lio Economist in Taiwan

Jin-Li Hu is Professor (2005/8-) at the Institute of Business and Management, College of Management (AACSB Accredited)National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) and Joint Appointment Professor at Department of Environmental and Cultural ResourcesNational Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan. Before joining NYCU in 2002, he has taught full-time at Ming Chuan College (1995/8-96/7) and Tamkang University (1996/8-2002/7). Dr. Hu (pronounced as Dr. Who) received a B.S. degree in industrial engineering/economics from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan (1989/6) and a Ph.D. degree in economics from State University of New York at Stony Brook in USA (1995/5).

His research interests include efficiency and productivity, regional studies, and sustainable development. He does both theoretical and empirical studies. Up to September 2025, Dr. Hu has published 252 referred papers in academic journals and books, among which he has 143 WOS (83 SSCI + 38 SCI(E) + 22 Other WOS), 14 Scopus, 9 TSSCI, 7 EV2, 4 THCI, and 2 CSSCI journal papers according to non-repeated counting. His publication shows up in major journals such as Journal of Economics & Management StrategyJournal of Banking & FinanceJournal of Institutional & Theoretical EconomicsB.E. Dr. Hu is currently a global top 5% author in economics for 18 criteria ranked by IDEAS. He is honored with 2018 Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer, 2017 Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer, 2016 Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer, 2014 Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer, 2013 Elsevier Excellence in Reviewing, and 2012 Asia’s Best Professor in Economics. He is currently editor-in-chief of Journal of Taiwan Energy (TSSCI) and Corporate Management Review (TSSCI), executive editor of Journal of Management and Systems (TSSCI), area editor of Journal of Management and Business Research (TSSCI, Scopus), and also in the editorial boards of Energies (SCIE), Journal of Hospitality Financial Management (Scopus), Taiwan Journal of Marketing Science and Journal of Chinese Management Development. Professor Hu is a Vice President of Association for China Economic Studies (ACES) and a BOD member of Taiwan Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (TAERE).

Professor Hu is a BLUE-lio (BLUE-stream) economist in Taiwan. BLUE is an econometric term which stands for ‘Best Linear Unbiased Estimation’. BLUE-lio is neither mainstream nor non-mainstream. Market trade is colorful and all kinds of goods and services always co-exist at any market equilibrium. He vows to be a teacher of all parties and schisms in Formosa (the Beautiful Island).
